This morning I was thrilled to welcome the Prime Minister to Hitachiβs Newton Aycliffe factory.
I joined the PM for a tour around the factory floor where we were shown the various stages involved in assembling and testing the latest Azuma and Avanti trains.
The visit comes following last weekβs announcements that projects across the North East have been allocated more than Β£100 million from round two of the governmentβs flagship Levelling Up Fundβ building on the Β£1.7 billion already awarded to 105 projects in the first round.
The PM was given a unique insight into Hitachiβs pioneering work on replacing diesel engines with battery power. The work at Hitachi serves as a fine example of how British businesses can participate in the Governmentβs quest to level-up the UK and the North East in an environmentally friendly way.
Itβs safe to say that the factory has flourished under this Conservative government. Jobs have been created, wealth has been generated, and opportunity has been unleashed for local people and the surrounding communities.
More details to follow.
