It was great to get out and speak to local residents across the patch last night— though a little chilly after the shower!
There were many discussions on the growing cost of living, the support available, and the Chancellor’s recent tax announcements.
I have been following the news closely and I fully acknowledge that there has been some concern about the detail of some of the measures.
However, from my experience of following the economy over the years, I know that Government reform and tax changes often takes a while to be felt in the wider economy and it is too soon to know their impact.
As someone who has been a Finance Director in a number of businesses in the private sector, I know how important it is that budget measures make sense in the public sector and I know the Chancellor will be providing further updates on his plans in the coming weeks, with a more comprehensive update on the medium-term fiscal plan on 23rd November.
Following my appointment as a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) in the Treasury during the summer, I look forward to working as an assistant to the Chief Secretary to the Treasury and the Chancellor’s team. I encourage people to get in contact if they have feedback to share.
