When was the last time you had an eye test?
This morning I attended a parliamentary reception hosted by Specsavers to learn more about the state of the UK’s eye health.
£36 billion is the annual cost to the economy of sight loss and blindness, and 2 million people are at risk of vision loss due to glaucoma.
Getting your eyes tested can help prevent, or limit, the damage caused by certain eye conditions.
Regular eye examinations are important because:
having your vision corrected can improve the quality of day-to-day life
they will help detect certain eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration, which could lead to sight loss
poor vision could be a risk for falls
An optometrist may also be able to spot the signs of some broader health conditions with symptoms that affect the eyes, such as diabetes, some cancers and high blood pressure.
Getting your eyes tested could not only save your sight, it could also save your life.
