Sedgefield MP, Paul Howell, heralds Spring Budget As a ‘Victory’ For Working Families.
Sedgefield MP, Paul Howell, has today heralded the Spring Budget as a ‘victory’ for working people as residents of Sedgefield are set to benefit from the Conservative Government’s Spring Budget 2023, that delivers on the Prime Minister and Chancellor’s priority to halve inflation, reduce debt and grow the economy.
The Chancellor’s Spring Budget tackles the two biggest issues the UK economy faces – getting investment into the economy and filling one million job vacancies, by creating more opportunities for work across every region in the UK.
Thanks to the Conservative Government the North East will see cutting-edge regeneration funding, backed by £36.4 million through the Levelling Up Regeneration Projects and three Community Ownership Fund projects backed by £504,000 through the Community Ownership Fund. These new projects will create jobs across the area and restore pride by delivering on local priorities.
The Chancellor has also committed £11.4 million across the North East to fix 230,000 potholes, increasing road safety for motorists.
Recognising the vital role our hospitality sector plays in growing the economy, the Draught Relief announced at the Budget will benefit 1,685 venues across the region and help our pubs to prosper.
The Conservative Government have set the mission that, by 2030, every part of England that wants a devolution deal will have one. They have made progress on this including across the North East, empowering local leaders to deliver for their local communities by securing a deal in 2022.
This is a Budget for growth and sets the conditions to deliver on the Prime Minister and the Chancellor’s priorities: to halve inflation, grow the economy and reduce debt to deliver better living standards for everyone across the country.
Commenting, Mr Howell said:
““I am delighted the Government is investing in the North East, creating new jobs and economic growth in our area.”
“As PPS to the Treasury, I can see clearly where the concerns of my constituents have been translated into national government policy. From more money to fix our roads to backing local regeneration, the Chancellor’s Budget will benefit families right across the country.”
“Thankfully, Britain is now on a lasting path to support growth, spurred by a revolution in childcare, the biggest ever employment package and the best incentives in Europe”.
When questioned why Sedgefield residents should now trust the Chancellor’s plan, Mr Howell said:
“As politicians, there is a temptation to sugarcoat reality. The Chancellor has always resisted such temptation when it comes to the nation’s finances and that’s why I respect him. When he assumed office last year he was upfront with the public— the only way out of this economic fever would be through making difficult decisions and having a strict adherence to the economic principles he outlined.”
“Thankfully we have stayed the course and are now starting to see signs of economic recovery. The plan is working— inflation is falling, debt is down and our economy Is growing. We must now remain focussed to reap the benefits of all that we have sowed.”
Commenting, Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt said:
“We are working hard to deliver on our priorities to halve inflation, grow the economy and reduce debt so we build a stronger and more innovative economy that will guarantee a better future for the next generation.”
“This Budget tackles the two biggest issues the UK economy must overcome to grow – getting investment into our economy and filling one million job vacancies.”
“It does this by delivering the four pillars – Enterprise, Employment, Education and Everywhere – that includes delivering for every region across the UK.”
