I was pleased to support @AlzResearchUK’s event yesterday, speaking about the actions I can take as an MP to help change the #FutureOfDementia.
With over half of us knowing someone affected by dementia, there must be a greater focus on putting a stop to the heartbreak this condition causes.
Sedgefield has a number of incredible initiatives designed to help those living with dementia. One such initiative is the Sedgefield Memory Café.
Community initiatives like this play an absolutely vital role in dealing with the day to day impact of dementia. They offer amazing local support and it was clear that everyone who visits the café values that hugely.
7 out of 10 individuals who suffer from dementia also suffer from other conditions or disabilities. Annually carers for dementia sufferers, who are often spouses or adult children, perform 1.3 billion hours of care, saving the government £11.6 billion.
This is so important alongside the wider work that the Alzheimer’s Society does to offer support to those living with dementia, and also fund medical research into life-changing treatments.
