The Government has launched a £1 billion drive to help those most in need heat their home for less, through the Great British Insulation Scheme.
Families in lower council tax bands with less energy-efficient homes will be offered vital upgrades - such as roof, loft or cavity wall insulation - which could cut their annual energy bill by an average of between £300 to £400.
This will help more than 300,000 families heat their homes and save money on their bills through energy efficiency upgrades, such as:
- Cavity wall insulation
- Solid wall insulation (internal or external)
- Loft insulation
- Flat or pitched roof insulation
- Underfloor insulation
- Solid floor insulation
- Park home insulation
- Room-in-roof insulation
You can be a homeowner, landlord or tenant (either renting privately or from a housing association). If you’re a tenant, speak to your landlord before you apply. You’ll need their permission before any insulation can be installed.
To be potentially eligible for this scheme, please note that it is targeted at households who:
- Have an energy performance certificate (EPC) of D-G.
- You can check if your property has an EPC rating through this link: https://www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate
- Between Council tax bands A-D in England.
- You can check your Council Tax band through this link: https://www.gov.uk/council-tax-bands
I would encourage constituents to check whether they are potentially eligible for the scheme by using the online checker here: https://www.gov.uk/apply-great-british-insulation-scheme , which can also be used to send a referral to your energy supplier. Although please note, not all energy providers are up and running with this scheme yet – those who aren’t may allow you to register an interest with them in advance or ask that you try again later.
For those who are not able to use the online service, a helpline is available on: 0800 098 7950. This service is open:
