FIREWORKS LEGISLATION REVIEW
I am pleased to sign a pledge to encourage the Government to conduct a review of existing fireworks legislation to ensure that fireworks are purchased and used in a respectful and sensible way so that everyone can enjoy this season safely.
Easy access to fireworks and poor enforcement of existing legislation on fireworks is having a detrimental impact on people who have PTSD including veterans, and adults and young people with burns injuries.
Fireworks can also be a source of fear and distress for many animals. In particular, the sudden, loud noises that many fireworks make can cause fear.
Last year alone the RSPCA received over 11,700 responses to their impact reporting survey which demonstrated just how animals were suffering, with some owners sadly reporting loss of life.
The problem is clear—now is the time for a review of existing fireworks legislation.
