Politics and personal differences aside, I don’t envy either party in these very difficult negotiations.

Fortunately, Select Committees are a welcome reprieve from the political turmoil and offer a rare opportunity to sit down with the dispute’s leading protagonist to better understand their position and the progress made towards ending the long-running dispute.

This was the third session of its kind since July 2022 and follows the strike action taken by rail workers in recent weeks.

I discussed with Mr Lynch what an agreement between the unions and rail bosses may include, as well as the likelihood of further strikes.
